Trump Claims to Have Thwarted Assassination Attempt by Iranian Regime
On Sunday, March 1, ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl reported that President Donald Trump boasted about foiling an assassination attempt by the Iranian regime. Trump allegedly stated, “I got him before he got me. They tried twice. Well I got him first,” in reference to the reported death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday, February 28.
This revelation comes after a series of events dating back to November 2024 when Farhad Shakeri was arrested in connection with an alleged plot to kill the president. Two other individuals, Carlisle Rivera and Jonathon Loadholt, both hailing from New York, were also apprehended.
Former U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced, “The Justice Department has charged an asset of the Iranian regime who was tasked with orchestrating a network of criminal associates to carry out Iran’s assassination schemes against its targets, including President-elect Donald Trump.”
Garland further explained, “We have also arrested two individuals who were recruited as part of this network to silence and eliminate an American journalist critical of the regime on U.S. soil. We will not tolerate the Iranian regime’s efforts to jeopardize the safety of the American people and our national security.”
