During the committee hearing, Louisiana Senator John Kennedy questioned Noem about the exorbitant cost of the ads, expressing disbelief at the amount spent on featuring her prominently. Noem defended her actions by stating that the president had tasked her with spreading the message about illegal immigration through the commercials.
Kennedy was skeptical of Noem’s claim that Trump had approved the hefty ad budget, stating that it put the president in an awkward position. He remarked that it was hard to believe that Trump would have agreed to such a massive expenditure without his knowledge.

Despite her controversial tenure as DHS secretary, Trump decided to replace Noem with Markwayne Mullin, a Republican senator from Oklahoma. Noem was appointed as the Envoy for The Shield of the Americas, leading a new Security Initiative in the Western Hemisphere.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump acknowledged Noem’s service and announced her new role, while praising her for her work and assigning her to a key position in the administration’s security efforts. The transition marked the end of Noem’s time as Homeland Security chief and the beginning of a new chapter in her government career.
