LOS ANGELES — Paul Pelosi, the husband of Nancy Pelosi, was involved in a hit-and-run incident in California that resulted in significant damage to a parked vehicle. Authorities indicated on Saturday that he might face misdemeanor charges.
On Friday, while driving his brown convertible in Yountville, a town in wine country, Paul Pelosi collided with a legally parked car on the roadside. He briefly halted but then drove away, according to a statement from the Napa County Sheriff’s Office. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
A witness reported the accident to 911, and sheriff’s deputies soon discovered Pelosi about a quarter of a mile from the scene. His car had front-end damage. Pelosi reportedly admitted to officers that he realized he had hit something but was unsure of the details.
The statement confirmed that Pelosi, 86, had no alcohol in his system. The sheriff’s office has referred him to the Department of Motor Vehicles to assess his ability to continue driving, a routine process for older drivers.
Due to the absence of injuries, Pelosi was not arrested. The sheriff’s office has suggested a misdemeanor charge for leaving the scene of an accident.
A representative for Nancy Pelosi did not respond immediately to a request for comment via email.
In 2022, Paul Pelosi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence in Napa County. He was sentenced to five days in jail and three years of probation. He served two days, received good conduct credit for two more, and completed one day in a work program at the courthouse.
As part of his probation, he attended a three-month drinking driver class and had to install an ignition interlock device, requiring a breath sample to start his car. He was also ordered to pay approximately $5,000 in victim restitution for medical expenses and lost wages, along with nearly $2,000 in fines.
That same year, he was attacked and severely beaten with a hammer at the couple’s San Francisco home.
