Exploring the Latest Gauchere Collection
When it comes to the latest Gauchere collection, the experience goes beyond just the looks captured in photographs on Rue de Rivoli. Designer Marie-Christine Statz took a unique approach by staging mini shows at the brand’s HQ and studio, involving creative friends and muses in the presentation. The models and participants moved with purpose, some pausing to lounge or admire themselves in mirrors, creating a sense of voyeurism. The soundtrack added to the atmosphere with syncopated laughter and the repeated phrase, “Guess you had to be there.”
Despite the unconventional presentation, Statz’s designs stood out for their sleek and sophisticated silhouettes that are versatile for any occasion. The collection’s theme of “mass and void” played with the concept of reveal-and-conceal, blurring the lines between masculine and feminine elements. Oversized coats, tailored shirts, faux leather trousers, and biker jackets were juxtaposed with draped tops, straight skirts, and striking necklines, creating a dynamic interplay of textures and shapes.
Marie-Victoire de Bascher, a multi-talented creator, shared her admiration for a tobacco-toned coat from the collection, praising its ability to exude confidence and comfort simultaneously. Statz drew inspiration from the women around her and the sartorial choices of Parisian women, infusing her personal style into the designs. She emphasized the importance of evolving while staying true to one’s aesthetic, incorporating timeless pieces like funnel-neck blousons and sleeveless trenches as wardrobe staples.
