Tragedy Strikes as Security Guard Dies After Altercation at River North Nightclub
A tragic incident unfolded early Monday morning at a River North nightclub, resulting in the death of a security guard who was trying to intervene in a fight. The perpetrator, a 32-year-old man, has been taken into custody following the fatal altercation.
Chicago Police Department reported that the incident took place at approximately 1:18 a.m. within a business located in the 100 block of West Hubbard Street. The 35-year-old security guard stepped in when the suspect was involved in a dispute with a group of individuals.
Amidst the confrontation, the aggressor pushed the security guard down a flight of stairs, causing him to sustain severe head injuries from the fall.
Emergency services rushed the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the location of the incident as 110 West Hubbard Street, the address of Hubbard Inn, a popular nightclub and restaurant.
Witnesses at the scene recounted that the security guard fell from the third floor of the venue to the second floor, where he was discovered unconscious. Despite immediate CPR efforts by patrons, the injuries proved fatal.
The CPD confirmed that the perpetrator was apprehended on-site, although formal charges were pending as of Monday morning.
Records from emergency dispatch suggest that authorities may have received an earlier distress call from Hubbard Inn. A female caller reported a physical altercation and drug use within the establishment at 1:20 a.m. However, the caller disconnected the call and did not respond to subsequent attempts to contact her.
It remains unclear whether this initial call is linked to the tragic event that led to the security guard’s untimely death.
