ADVANCING FISCAL DISCIPLINE AT THE TVA:

Today, President Donald J. Trump issued a Presidential Memorandum mandating the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Board of Directors to impose reasonable limits on employee compensation, including that of the CEO. This initiative aims to foster fiscal responsibility, rebuild public trust, and align TVA practices with public-sector standards.

  • The Memorandum directs the TVA Board to set a maximum total annual compensation of $500,000 for all TVA employees. This figure encompasses salary, bonuses, incentives, benefits, and other forms of remuneration, aligning with their annual compensation survey results.
  • These reasonable compensation limits are suggested for all forthcoming compensation arrangements.
  • Board member compensation is confined to the statutory minimum.

REINFORCING ACCOUNTABILITY TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE:

President Trump is taking a stand against excessive executive salaries at the TVA, where previous CEOs have enjoyed multimillion-dollar compensation packages that starkly contrast with the pay scales of other federal positions.

  • As a fully owned corporate entity of the Federal government, the TVA bears the responsibility of managing public resources prudently; lavish CEO compensation undermines this obligation and erodes public trust.
  • Compensation packages reaching seven figures at the TVA are out of step with other public sector leadership roles, such as the President of the United States earning $400,000 annually and the highest-paid governor in the nation making approximately $254,000. This action aims to realign TVA leadership pay with comparable federal positions.
  • By instituting reasonable compensation limits, we ensure that taxpayer and ratepayer funds are utilized for the welfare of the American populace, rather than for inflated executive payouts.

President Trump remains committed to promoting fiscal responsibility and accountability throughout the Federal government.

  • The Trump Administration has concentrated on eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse, ensuring that tax dollars are spent effectively for the benefit of all Americans.
  • President Trump enacted the largest tax cut in American history through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, directly putting more money in the pockets of hardworking families, employees, and businesses.
  • He has streamlined unnecessary bureaucratic processes and redirected resources towards priorities that genuinely benefit the American public.
