The Tennessee Titans made headlines on Friday as they released cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, making him a free agent after his two-year stint with the team. The decision to cut Sneed sparked controversy, with former NFL wide receiver Torrey Smith criticizing the move, citing financial reasons.

In a tweet, Smith expressed his disappointment in the Titans for waiting until now to release Sneed, suggesting that the team had mistreated the player by not making the decision earlier. He urged fans to consider situations like this when criticizing players for seeking what they have rightfully earned.

Smith, who won Super Bowls with both the Baltimore Ravens and the Philadelphia Eagles, retired from the NFL in 2019 after an eight-year career. Sneed, on the other hand, was acquired by the Titans in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2024 offseason. He signed a lucrative four-year, $76.40 million contract with Tennessee.

Reports indicate that the Titans will save up to $16 million against the salary cap by releasing Sneed. Despite his short tenure with the team, Sneed’s performance with the Chiefs, where he won two Super Bowls in four years, has sparked speculation that he may return to Kansas City for the 2026 season.

During his time with the Titans, Sneed played only 12 games over two seasons, recording 49 tackles, three pass breakups, and no interceptions. The team recently signed defensive backs Alontae Taylor, Cor’Dale Flott, and Josh Williams, further solidifying their secondary before parting ways with Sneed.

As fans speculate on Sneed’s future in the league, the controversy surrounding his release by the Titans continues to generate discussion. Whether he will find a new home with another team or potentially make a return to the Chiefs remains to be seen.

In conclusion, the release of L’Jarius Sneed by the Tennessee Titans has raised questions about the team’s decision-making and the treatment of players in the NFL. As the offseason progresses, all eyes will be on Sneed as he navigates his next steps in the league.
