This peculiar gift-giving practice came to light during a meeting in December when Trump bluntly told Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance that they “have shitty shoes.” He then proceeded to consult a catalog, ask for their shoe sizes (Rubio’s being 11.5 and Vance’s being 13), and remarked, “You can tell a lot about a man by his shoe size.”
Following this exchange, both Rubio and Vance reportedly received four pairs of the ill-fitting Florsheim Oxfords from the president. However, as recent photographs have shown, Rubio’s shoes are at least two sizes too big for him.
