Chicago Police Investigate String of Robberies in River North
Chicago police are currently investigating a series of armed robberies that occurred in the River North neighborhood during the early hours of Saturday morning. The incidents included a kidnapping where the victim was taken to multiple convenience stores to withdraw cash from ATMs.
The first reported incident took place around 2 a.m. near Maple and Dearborn streets. The victim was lured into a vehicle by two men who displayed a gun. They then drove the victim to several nearby stores, forcing him to withdraw cash from ATMs before releasing him in River North. The suspects, described as Black males, also took the victim’s phone.
Approximately 30 minutes later, at 2:30 a.m., another man was robbed in the 400 block of North Clark Street. Witnesses reported a group of four or five men exiting two vehicles, attacking the victim, and fleeing towards Kinzie Street. Although officers located the victim, he chose not to file a formal report.
The most violent incident of the night occurred around 3:15 a.m. on West Huron Street. A group of five men, at least one of them armed, assaulted and robbed a victim before escaping in a stolen black Jeep. The suspects, all described as Black males wearing masks, were last seen heading onto the expressway. One member of the group was identified as not wearing a mask and having dreadlocks.
As dawn broke, a man was robbed of his phone and wallet around 6 a.m. near Inner Lake Shore Drive and Chicago Avenue. Northwestern University Police provided assistance to the victim until CPD arrived on the scene.
