Honoring the Legacy of President Andrew Jackson

Today, we gather to commemorate the birth of President Andrew Jackson—a figure celebrated as a champion of the common citizen, a determined opponent of political corruption, and a staunch advocate of republican self-governance.

Jackson’s formidable early years shaped the relentless and independent character that would later define his legacy. From the outset, he faced unimaginable hardships. His father passed away just before his birth, and by his early teens, the tumultuous Revolutionary War had claimed the lives of his mother and two brothers. Fueled by a desire for revenge and a quest for liberty, he enlisted in the Continental Army at the tender age of 13. Captured by the British during his service, Jackson endured the grim realities of being a prisoner of war—experiences that would forge the resilience and warrior spirit that marked his later endeavors.

His valor only intensified during the War of 1812, where he led American forces to a resounding victory at the Battle of New Orleans, securing his reputation as a national icon. Fast-forward nearly a decade, and after experiencing the bitter defeat of the 1824 election marred by allegations of corruption, Jackson mounted a remarkable political resurgence, overcoming fierce opposition to triumph over President John Quincy Adams in a remarkable electoral victory in 1828.

As the 7th President of the United States, Jackson implemented tariffs designed to protect American workers and assert national sovereignty. He boldly confronted the entrenched political establishment in Washington, D.C., redistributing power from corrupt elites back to the American populace. His presidency was characterized by an immense love for his country and an unwavering commitment to prioritizing America’s interests.

Today, my administration proudly aligns itself with the vision set forth by President Jackson. We are advocating for a trade policy that has led to unprecedented investments in our economy while safeguarding our workers, industries, and manufacturers from foreign exploitation. We are committed to restoring accountability and efficiency in Washington by addressing waste, fraud, and abuse—ensuring that the government truly operates as a vehicle of, by, and for the people. Our dedication to defending our citizens, sovereignty, and homeland remains resolute.

As we celebrate the birthday of our 7th Commander in Chief—and mark 250 years of glorious American independence—we pay tribute to one of the most influential leaders in our history. On what would have been his 259th birthday, we pledge to continue advancing President Jackson’s legacy, expanding his vision, and perpetuating the full potential of the American promise for future generations.
