Harry Kane has reached out to England supporters ahead of their FIFA World Cup showdown with Argentina. The striker is set to lead the team into another semifinal, with hopes of progressing to the final.
On social media, Kane shared some images from a training session, captioning them simply, “Ready to give it our all”, accompanied by three lion emojis.
Thanks for the submission!
This will be Kane’s first encounter with Argentina, as the two nations have not clashed since 2005. In an interview with ITV, he acknowledged the significance of the match and expressed readiness to challenge the reigning champions. He stated:
“I mean, what a game, what an occasion to play one of the best teams, the reigning world champions, in a semifinal of a World Cup. In these moments, I think back to being a kid and having dreams and what it’d be like to play in these games. This is as big as it gets, so I’m really excited for this week. I think it’s going to be a special game and what a tough team to play against but hopefully that brings the best out in us.”
England and Argentina have a history, particularly due to the Falklands War in 1982, but Kane emphasized that players need to concentrate solely on their performance on the field. He commented:
“I think it’s not something you want to focus too much on, surrounding the history. Yeah, that’s all part of it and that’s what you guys [in the media] will talk about, the fans will be involved in. But from a player’s point of view it’s us against a great team, who are smart, who are tactical, who know how to buy fouls, know how to slow the game down.”
“Like many different teams you come up against throughout your whole career. So, it’s England versus Argentina, it’s two of the biggest nations going toe to toe. Two giants in the semifinal of a World Cup. The rest of it is just a small part.”
Argentina has defeated England in their last two World Cup meetings, in 1986 and 1998, the former being infamous for the “Hand of God” incident.
Harry Kane Shines at FIFA World Cup
Harry Kane has been pivotal for England in this year’s FIFA World Cup. The forward has scored six of England’s 13 goals, with Jude Bellingham also tallying six. Kane is a strong contender for the Golden Boot, trailing Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, who have both scored eight goals.
