During his second term, Trump has taken several actions that have created significant division within his political base. He implemented an illegal tariff policy that was later nullified by the Supreme Court, and he challenged Second Amendment rights by supporting ICE after the shooting of licensed gun owner Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. However, his decision to initiate a conflict with Iran has been the most divisive.

For the past decade, Trump’s supporters relied on his promise to keep the US out of foreign conflicts.
That changed in 2026, when Trump’s global military actions escalated with the onset of war against Iran.
Joe Kent, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center under Trump, is associated with right-wing extremist groups and is seen as a staunch MAGA supporter. His sudden resignation due to the Iran war was a shock to the MAGA community.
Had Kent resigned quietly, it might have gone unnoticed, but he publicly contradicted the administration’s claims regarding Iran.
Kent shared on X:
After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.
I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.
It has been an honor serving under POTUS and DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC.
May God bless America.
Kent’s statement revealed that Israel had influenced Trump’s decision to go to war, and Trump’s response was predictable.
