On Monday afternoon, a group of armed robbers, linked by Chicago police to at least two prior incidents this month, targeted a man near the Magnificent Mile. They stole his valuables and a bag containing firearms before escaping in a luxury SUV.

The robbery took place at about 4:40 p.m. on the 100 block of East Chestnut Street. According to police, the 64-year-old victim had just exited his vehicle when a black SUV, possibly a Maserati, approached with four males inside. Three suspects exited the SUV, brandishing rifles and handguns, and took the man’s wallet, a luxury watch, and the bag with firearms, as per initial reports.

The assailants then aimed their weapons at two additional bystanders, a 58-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man, but departed without taking anything from them, a police spokesperson reported.

The victims managed to alert a passing CPD unit to report the incident. Surveillance footage showed the SUV without plates heading north on Rush Street, looping back to Chicago Avenue, and then moving south on Lake Shore Drive.

The suspects were described as Black males, aged between 16 and 35, wearing all-black attire and approximately 5-foot-7 in height. Two of them were seen wearing white face masks, while one wore a red face mask.

Area 3 detectives have connected this group to two other robberies in the vicinity this month. In these incidents, victims were held at gunpoint with rifles and handguns, losing high-value items such as watches, jewelry, purses, clothing, and wallets. In one case, the perpetrators intentionally rear-ended a victim’s car to get close to them.

The previous robberies were reported on the 300 block of East Chicago Avenue at 5:25 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, and on the first block of West Walton Street at 4:00 a.m. the following Sunday, March 15.

Area 3 detectives are overseeing the investigation.
