Russell T. Davies’ critically acclaimed drama “It’s a Sin” is being transformed into a dance performance by the prominent U.K. dance company Rambert.

Davies will serve as executive producer for the project, joining forces with pop duo Pet Shop Boys and Glyn Fussell. The choreography and direction will be managed by Rambert’s artistic director, Benoit Swan Pouffer, with Kaite O’Reilly (“The Almond and the Seahorse”) taking on the role of dramaturg.

Set over a decade from 1981 to 1991, “It’s a Sin” tells the story of a group of young gay men and their friends in London as they navigate the devastating impact of the HIV/AIDS crisis.

This dance adaptation, a collaborative production between Rambert and Factory International, will make its debut at Aviva Studios in Manchester. Further information, including the schedule and cast, will be disclosed at a later date.

Roman GianArthur is appointed as the composer and music supervisor, while the set and video design is being crafted by Luke Halls Studio.

“’It’s a Sin’ was an extraordinary project for me, and having it reimagined by Rambert into something fresh and thrilling is one of the biggest honors of my life,” expressed Davies.

Swan Pouffer remarked: “At Rambert, storytelling is at the heart of what we do. We felt a strong need to share this story now, and working alongside Russell — a masterful storyteller — is incredibly inspiring. Together, we’re discovering how dance and choreography can convey urgent, emotional stories in a powerful way. I’m eager to present this to audiences, and there is so much more to come as the project develops.”

“It’s a Sin” will also be co-produced with Wales Millennium Centre, Capital Theatres (Edinburgh), Sadler’s Wells Theatre, and Les Théâtres de la Ville (Luxembourg).
