It is clear when someone is overwhelmed by their responsibilities.
Concerns arose when Donald Trump appointed a Fox News weekend co-host with no experience at the Pentagon to lead the Department of Defense.
The issue was not only Pete Hegseth’s inexperience but also his reputation for alleged problems with alcohol and mistreatment of women, overshadowing any technical or administrative skills.
Placing Pete Hegseth at the helm of the US military seemed like a precarious decision. When Donald Trump approached the Secretary of Defense with one of his hastily conceived ideas, Hegseth would lack the expertise, experience, and autonomy to critique the president’s plans.
Hegseth fit Trump’s ideal choice, and the Secretary of Defense’s war briefings are revealing the consequences of this appointment.
During a recent press conference on the Iran conflict, Hegseth’s performance was chaotic.
Hegseth continued his criticism of the free press. He accused the media of suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome, a term that isn’t officially recognized.
Sec. Hegseth stated:
I stand here today speaking to you, the American people, not through filters, not through reporters, not through cable news spin. A dishonest and anti-Trump press will stop at nothing. We know this at this point, to downplay progress, amplify every cost. And call into question every step.
Sadly, TDS is in their DNA. They want President Trump to fail. But you, the American people know better. Yes, there are reporters in front of me, but they are not our audience today. It’s you, the good, decent, patriotic American people. You the hardworking tax paying. God-fearing American Patriots. The media here, and not all of it, but much of it wants you to think just 19 days into this conflict that we’re somehow spinning toward an endless abyss or a forever war or a quagmire.
Nothing could be further from the truth.

Hegseth also insisted that US allies express gratitude to Trump for initiating a war they opposed.
