In the inaugural edition of “SNL U.K.’s” Weekend Update, former Prince Andrew was in the spotlight.
Hosts Ania Magliano and Paddy Young were unabashed in their satire of the controversial royal, who faced arrest by U.K. police in February under suspicion of misconduct in public office following the Epstein files’ release. Before this, he had been stripped of his royal title and asked to vacate his Windsor residence.
“Coming up on Weekend Update: pedophilia. But first, war!” Magliano announced at the start, drawing laughter from the audience.
Following a series of jokes about the Iran War and a cameo by Al Nash as a power-hungry Captain Birdseye, the focus returned to Andrew. “Renovations to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s new home, Marsh Farm, have been underway over the past month, including the installation of Sky TV. So, if you’re watching this Andrew, hello! You’re not gonna like this next bit. Also, I’m older than I look,” Magliano quipped, further adding: “Andrew’s new residence, Marsh Farm, is of course named after the nearby marsh where his body will be found.”
Young then took the stage. “Reports this week indicate that the police investigation into Andrew is set to expand,” he noted. “The pressing question is, if Andrew is charged, convicted, and imprisoned, will he manage to keep his mouth shut? I hope not, said his cellmate’s penis.”
Another standout joke aimed at the U.K.’s other prominent family: the Beckhams. “Feuding father and son David and Brooklyn Beckham narrowly missed each other at the same Beverly Hills hotel,” Young explained. “The feud began when Victoria was reportedly ‘inappropriately’ close with her son at his wedding, and escalated after Brooklyn accidentally called out his wife’s name during an intimate moment with his mum.”
