Bryan Kohberger made his way from Idaho to Washington state to secure new license plates for his white Hyundai Elantra while evading capture.
Surveillance footage captured the 28-year-old entering the DMV on the afternoon of November 18, 2022, just five days following the murders. He approached a female agent and said, “I definitely need to get my license plate changed.”
Kohberger appeared casual, dressed in a dark jacket and black gloves, showing no indication of his alleged crimes. While waiting, he engaged in a conversation with the DMV worker about sports, specifically discussing the prospects of Yankee outfielder Aaron Judge.
During their exchange, the worker commented on the safety of the Washington area, inadvertently referencing the recent murders to Kohberger, the alleged perpetrator.
“I like how small, quiet, and I would say safe, but the whole Moscow thing, kinda makes it feel a little less,” the worker remarked.
Kohberger nodded in agreement and simply replied, “Yeah.”
