Star of “The Pitt” Season 2, Sepideh Moafi, shared with People magazine that her initial agent suggested she change her name to secure more roles.
Reflecting on her experience after graduating from graduate school, Moafi recounted, “My first agent wanted me to change my name, but I immediately rejected the idea.” She acknowledged that while some actors, particularly those from minority backgrounds, have faced similar expectations, many have chosen not to alter their names.
Moafi noted that deciding whether to change one’s name is a “complicated” issue, adding that she respects those who opt to make such a decision.
For Moafi, the suggestion felt like an attempt to alter her identity for professional gain. She chose to remain true to herself, which she believes led to a successful career, landing her first, second, and third roles, and contributing to a diverse and rewarding career.
In “The Pitt” Season 2, Moafi portrays Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi, an attending physician who steps in for Noah Wyle’s character, Dr. Michael Robinavitch, during his sabbatical. Moafi’s other television credits include roles in “The Deuce,” “The L Word: Generation Q,” and “Black Bird.”
