Hulu has decided not to move forward with the comedy pilot “Group Chat,” according to Variety. The show, inspired by La La Anthony’s book “The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness,” was developed by writer Kenya Barris and executive producer Kim Kardashian.
The project was initially announced for development in 2024 as part of Kardashian’s first-look deal with 20th Television. Anthony not only starred in the pilot but also took on the role of executive producer, while Kardashian was slated to guest star and narrate the series. The ensemble cast featured Yaya DaCosta, Melanie Liburd, Rebecca Rittenhouse, and Stephanie Suganami.
Despite this decision, Anthony and Kardashian continue their collaboration. Both are executive producers for an untitled Tracy Oliver comedy series currently being developed at Hulu. Oliver is also writing and executive producing the project, with 20th Television as the studio.
The new series is described as focusing on the Bay Area’s top crisis manager for professional athletes, whose life is disrupted by her husband’s scandal. She turns to her three closest friends for support as they face challenges in dating, ambition, motherhood, and the complexities of starting anew.
Tracy Oliver is widely recognized for her work on the 2017 comedy “Girls Trip,” which earned over $140 million globally. Her film credits include “The Blackening,” “The Sun Is Also a Star,” and “Little.” In television, she is known for developing the BET+ series “The First Wives Club” and creating the Amazon Prime Video series “Harlem,” which aired for three seasons.
Oliver is represented by CAA, Artists First, and Myman Greenspan. Kardashian is represented by WME, while Anthony is represented by Linden Entertainment, WME, and Sloane Offer.
