The Easter holiday road toll has now reached three fatalities following a motorcyclist’s death in Northland.

According to police, a single-vehicle accident happened on State Highway 1 in Waipu on Sunday morning at approximately 9:40 am, close to the intersection with Waipu Gorge Road.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Earlier in the weekend, another fatality occurred in the Northland town of Kaitaia, where a vehicle collided with a tree.

Emergency services responded to this incident near the intersection of North Road and Farrimond Place at 10:30 pm on Saturday.

The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, also died at the scene.

On Good Friday, another tragic accident resulted in a death when two vehicles crashed near Motueka in the Tasman District.

This collision took place at around 2:45 pm at the intersection of Coastal Highway (SH60) and Easton Loop.

One individual lost their life at the scene, while another suffered moderate injuries.

The Easter road toll period concludes at 6 am on Tuesday.
