Following the sale of Simon & Schuster two years ago, Paramount is re-entering the book industry with the creation of a new publishing imprint, Paramount Global Publishing.
This new publishing division will be part of the company’s Products & Experiences division, which is headed by president Josh Silverman. Oversight will be provided by Amy Jarashow, the head of global publishing. Jarashow and her team aim to produce publishing content that complements Paramount’s well-known brands and franchises, while also developing new intellectual property through original storytelling, according to the company.
The introduction of this new books division occurs over a year after Paramount Global sold Simon & Schuster to a private equity firm for $1.62 billion in October 2023. Paramount describes this return to publishing under its new Skydance leadership as “a strategic expansion in how fans engage with the company’s revered content while also creating new opportunities to develop original IP.”
According to the company, “Paramount will oversee direct development, creation and production of the Paramount Global Publishing books, with sales and distribution into the retail market to be handled by a yet-to-be-named partner.”
Paramount intends to maintain its current licensing strategy with publishers and distributors.
The imprint will initially launch in the U.S. and Canada, with plans to expand to additional markets in the future. It will produce print, digital, and audio content across various genres and age groups. Paramount Global Publishing will announce its first titles at a later date.
“Stories that originate on the page have a unique power to build immersive worlds, create compelling characters and forge deeper connections with fans,” Silverman stated. “With the launch of Paramount Global Publishing, we’re expanding the reach of our most beloved franchises while also introducing original stories to audiences around the world.”
