Erika Alexander is gaining momentum for an Emmy nomination with her role in “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins.”

Variety reports that Tracy Morgan, known for his comedic talent, will be the only entry in the lead acting category for his portrayal of a former football star in the series. Alexander, who plays Monica, Reggie’s sharp and practical ex-wife and agent, is set to compete in the supporting comedy actress category, enhancing her chances for long-awaited recognition from the Television Academy. Precious Way, her co-star, will also compete in the same category, while Daniel Radcliffe, Jalyn Hall, and Bobby Moynihan are in the running for supporting actor. Further submissions for other categories will be revealed later.

The new NBC mockumentary has been generating significant Emmy buzz. Debuting on NBC in January as a midseason addition, its 10-episode first season concludes on April 13, attracting a large audience and positioning itself as a contender for outstanding comedy series. It is seen as NBC’s counterpart to “Abbott Elementary,” offering a blend of humor, heart, and a dynamic cast that keeps viewers engaged.

This moment is particularly significant for Alexander, who rose to fame as Maxine Shaw on the popular sitcom “Living Single,” a show that had a lasting impact on Black television comedy. Despite the show’s success, she was never nominated for an Emmy. Since then, she has quietly developed a strong career in both comedy and drama. Her recent projects include the Oscar-winning “American Fiction” (2023), which was nominated for best picture, and Apple TV’s “Invasion,” where she is also a contender for supporting drama actress.

In “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins,” Alexander delivers a performance that combines her sharp comedic style with emotional depth, standing out among the ensemble cast, particularly alongside the unpredictable Reggie. Her work strikes a balance of humor and emotion that often attracts Emmy consideration, similar to Julie Bowen’s role in “Modern Family.”

Morgan is also familiar with the Emmys, having been nominated twice before: once for supporting comedy actor for “30 Rock” in 2009 and again for guest comedy actor for hosting “Saturday Night Live” in 2016. The rest of the cast is talented and could also emerge as contenders if the show continues to gain traction.

With creators Robert Carlock and Sam Means, known for “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” at the helm, “The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins” is poised to be one of NBC’s standout comedies this year, potentially bringing Erika Alexander her well-deserved spotlight and earning the show a place in the top ranks.
