In North Carolina, Democratic figure Roy Cooper is significantly outpacing Republican Michael Whatley in fundraising, resulting in a notable financial gap in this high-profile Senate race.
According to Federal Election Commission reports, Cooper secured $13.8 million in the year’s first quarter, compared to Whatley’s $5 million. This period included both the lead-up to and the aftermath of their largely uncontested primaries in early March.
As the second quarter began, Cooper had $18.5 million in cash reserves, whereas Whatley had over $2.5 million available.
North Carolina remains a prime focus for Democrats. Cooper, the state’s recent governor, leverages his widespread recognition to amass substantial campaign contributions. Polls generally indicate he has a considerable lead over Whatley.
To support Whatley, national Republicans are planning significant interventions. The Senate Leadership Fund has promised $71 million towards the Senate race.
