The fundraising efforts of former Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown have significantly outpaced those of his rival, boosting Democratic aspirations to capture the Ohio Senate seat.
According to filings with the Federal Elections Commission, Brown secured $10.1 million in the first quarter of the year, far surpassing GOP Sen. Jon Husted, who raised $2.9 million. Brown holds $16.5 million in cash on hand, more than twice the $8.2 million Husted has as they approach their respective uncontested primaries in May.
Senate Republicans are gearing up for substantial financial backing to aid Husted in winning his initial election after his appointment to Vice President JD Vance’s former seat last year. The Senate Leadership Fund, the leading super PAC for Senate Republicans, has committed to spending $79 million in Ohio.
Democrats are looking to Brown, who spent over 30 years in Congress before losing reelection to Sen. Bernie Moreno in 2024, to potentially make the predominantly Republican state competitive again.
