Senator John Cornyn of Texas, a Republican, holds a substantial financial advantage over his primary challenger, enhancing his position ahead of the May runoff. Cornyn concluded the first quarter with over $8 million in available funds, significantly more than the $2.6 million held by his opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, as reported in filings with the Federal Election Commission.

The contest between Cornyn and Paxton has become increasingly contentious and personal, stirring concern among Republicans about their ability to defeat James Talarico, the chosen Democratic nominee for the Senate. Talarico amassed an impressive $27 million in the previous quarter and retains approximately $9.9 million in cash. Despite teasing an endorsement for several weeks, President Donald Trump has not yet backed a candidate in the race.

Cornyn’s fundraising efforts, largely through joint fundraising committees, contributed to a total collection of roughly $9 million. In contrast, Paxton reported raising $2.2 million.
