This was one of four such periods of digital inactivity since June 2022. Forensic experts identified a significant oversight as they observed the pattern of absences leading up to the murders.
“He didn’t just lose signal or run out of battery,” explained Jared Barnhart, the Cellebrite head of global engagement. “This was a deliberate action—powering off and then back on two hours later. During this time, four individuals lost their lives.”
