Home invaders attacked a 70-year-old woman in Hollywood Hills, strangling her before fleeing with a significant amount of cash and jewelry, according to police reports.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call at the 8500 block of Lookout Mountain Avenue in the Laurel Canyon neighborhood around 8 p.m. on Thursday. Upon arrival, they discovered that a suspect had broken into the residence, stolen valuables, and left the scene before their arrival.
The victim, who was assaulted and strangled during the incident, was transported to a local hospital, where she is reported to be in stable condition.
Video footage from the location showed numerous police vehicles parked outside the home, with air units assisting in the search for the suspect. Officers cordoned off the area with yellow police tape.
The suspects, dressed in hoodies and masks, departed the scene in a white Honda Accord, carrying a “large amount” of cash and jewelry, as reported by NBC Los Angeles.
A neighbor described the residence as an ideal target for a break-in.
“It’s a dark street. It’s at the top. Dead-end street. Not many people on it,” the neighbor told NBC LA. “So, of course, it’s like the perfect street for a break-in.”
The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division is conducting an investigation.
The affluent area is known for housing numerous celebrities, including actor Keanu Reeves, singer Sabrina Carpenter, and Dylan Sprouse, a former child actor who recently thwarted a home invasion at his own residence.
Sprouse reportedly subdued the intruder and held him at gunpoint until police arrived to apprehend the suspect.
