A selection of fashion items, including a $440 striped shirt, $139 jeans, $298 sneakers, $198 sunglasses, and a $950 suede bag, was showcased on OneOff, an AI-driven fashion platform where Meghan Markle is both an investor and receives affiliate sales commissions.
The listing, which also depicted her husband, Prince Harry, 41, was subsequently removed and substituted with a less contentious image of Meghan in a different setting.
It is understood that Markle earns a commission ranging from 10 to 25 percent on items sold via the platform.
The promotion’s timing, coinciding with an engagement where Markle and Harry met with victims and emergency responders, attracted significant criticism from those who questioned the propriety of capitalizing on such an occasion.
A source familiar with the backlash commented: “For many observers, linking a carefully curated outfit to a commission-based platform so soon after such a sensitive and emotionally charged visit has been perceived as a serious misjudgment by Meghan.
“It gives the impression that commercial interests were prioritized at a time that should have been focused on empathy and respect. It is widely viewed as her most audacious cash-grab to date.”
