Shimon Yoshinari, once only a viewer of Johan Ghazali on television, is now set to join him on the global stage of ONE Championship on April 29.
The Japanese rising star will face the young knockout prodigy in a flyweight Muay Thai match at ONE SAMURAI 1, marking the debut of ONE Championship’s new monthly event series in Japan.
This encounter is a pivotal moment for the Tokyo-based fighter, who has the opportunity to challenge one of the most celebrated figures in the promotion.
For Yoshinari, this fight is particularly meaningful as Ghazali was someone he used to admire from a distance, just like many others who followed his journey as fans.

In a conversation with ONE Championship prior to the fight at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday, April 29, Shimon shared his initial thoughts when the fight was proposed.
“It was an offer from such a huge event, so honestly, I was just happy. Johan is a well-known and popular fighter, so I felt like it was a real challenge worth taking on. I never really imagined I’d be fighting him, I had only seen him fight on TV,” Shimon told the world’s largest martial arts organization.
Shimon Yoshinari has the perfect chance to shock the world against Johan Ghazali
The opportunity for Shimon is immense. A victory over Ghazali on home ground, in front of a Japanese audience at the Ariake Arena, would propel him into the ONE spotlight and establish him as a serious contender in the flyweight Muay Thai division.
At just 21, the Eiwa Sports Gym affiliate has already made a mark in the ONE Circle with victories over top-tier opponents like Rittidet Sor Sommai, Yodlekpet Or Atchariya, Pettonglor Sitluangpeenumfon, and Dedduanglek Torfunfarm.
However, he has never faced someone with the star power of Ghazali. ‘Jojo,’ who enters as the favorite, is not only a bigger name but also a more acclaimed promotional fighter, setting the stage for potential upsets that could change the trajectory of Shimon’s career.
