Simultaneously, the criticism from royal circles is growing more intense.
In his upcoming book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, set to be released on March 26, author Tom Bower claims that Prince William, 43, and Princess Kate, 44, quickly concluded that Markle was “a divisive agent” and posed “a threat” to the royal family. He suggests that the American divorcee was disheartened upon realizing that she and Harry would not ascend to the roles of king and queen.
Bower further alleges that Queen Camilla, 78, confided to a friend that “Meghan’s brainwashed Harry,” asserting that the relationship had significantly altered him. According to Bower, Harry, in an effort to please Meghan, distanced himself from old friends and even changed his phone number without informing his family.
The Sussexes promptly responded, criticizing Bower for crossing the line from critique to obsession and dismissing his allegations as “deranged conspiracy and melodrama.”
The timing of these developments is particularly challenging. A source explained, “It’s very difficult, if not obstructive, for Harry, who is trying hard to mend relations with his family and reconnect with his ailing father, King Charles III, 77.”
“He could do without the additional drama, as it affects his reputation by association.”
Nonetheless, Harry remains unwavering in his support for Markle.
“To him, Meghan is his soul mate… he feels forever indebted to and in awe of her,” the source added, highlighting that Harry’s priorities are “being a dad, playing polo, and advancing his philanthropic efforts” despite the “painful and tiresome” noise surrounding him.
