Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Updated: April 30, 2026): Currently, this category is among the most fiercely contested acting races in the Emmy landscape.
Cailee Spaeny delivers a standout performance in the second season of Netflix’s anthology “Beef,” potentially earning the 27-year-old her first major Emmy nomination. The possibility of Oscar winner Yuh-Jung Youn being alongside her remains a topic of discussion for the remainder of the season.
The main contention is with “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bissette,” featuring Grace Gummer, Naomi Watts, and Constance Zimmer. It’s uncertain if all three can secure nominations, as history suggests the likelihood is slim. Nevertheless, the FX limited series is a high-profile period piece that could potentially receive multiple nominations in this competitive category.
Laurie Metcalf may become a double nominee with her comedy role in “Big Mistakes” and seems a strong contender for Ryan Murphy’s “Monster: The Ed Gein Story.” Vicky Krieps also receives attention for her role in the same series, with Murphy’s productions often dominating acting categories.
With HBO Max’s “DTF St. Louis” cast submitting in supporting roles, Linda Cardellini emerges as a strong candidate for her first award, garnering significant attention for her performance. Joy Sunday, her co-star, could also be a contender.
Dakota Fanning shouldn’t be overlooked either, as she is back in the spotlight for Peacock’s “All Her Fault,” giving the network a strong presence in a traditionally underrepresented category.
Official category submissions are not yet confirmed, and the lineup may change before the eligibility cycle concludes.
The Emmy Awards process starts with nomination-round voting from June 11-22, with nominations revealed on July 8. Final voting takes place from Aug. 17-26, followed by the Creative Arts Awards and Governors Gala on Sept. 5–6, and concludes with the Emmy Awards ceremony on Sept. 14 on NBC.
