Connor Storrie, known for his role in “Heated Rivalry,” introduced Olivia Rodrigo for her second appearance on Saturday Night Live. During the show, Rodrigo premiered a new, unreleased track from her forthcoming album.
Rodrigo performed the song “begged” while seated on a swing, echoing the imagery of her third album’s cover, “you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,” which depicts her upside-down on a swing. The album is scheduled to be released on June 12.
The track is a soft, melancholic ballad that explores themes of longing and uncertainty. Rodrigo sang, “All that I want is to know undoubtedly that you just have eyes for me,” and continued, “All that I want is to sit here silently and watch movies on TV.”
The lyrics maintain an intimate tone as Rodrigo continues with, “What a shame you’re not here / here to witness my devotion and my endless well of needs,” and later adds, “I feel trapped inside my life.”
The album was recorded with her longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, who has also worked with her on “Sour” and “Guts.” Rodrigo has described this new project as a collection of “sad love songs,” crafted from a more introspective emotional perspective.
Earlier in the night, Rodrigo also served as the host, opening the show with a monologue that revisited her early Disney Channel days on “Bizaardvark.” Her monologue included a musical parody of her breakout hit “drivers license,” transformed into a humorous DMV story about obtaining a Real ID.
This performance comes after a hectic period for Rodrigo, who recently joined Addison Rae on stage at Coachella and performed a one-night-only show at The Echo in Los Angeles last week. Rodrigo initially rose to fame in 2021 with her album “Sour,” followed by “Guts” in 2023, quickly establishing herself as a leading young artist in the pop industry. She has won three Grammy Awards and received an Album of the Year nomination for both albums.
