A man from Tennessee was arrested after allegedly biting his infant son on the cheek during a public disturbance at a Memphis chicken wing restaurant. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Friday, May 1, at Memphis Wings. Police responded to a call reporting that a man, identified as Jerry Stark, had attacked his child inside the restaurant.
When police arrived, they found the 34-year-old Stark “screaming and panicking” in the restaurant, as noted in an arrest affidavit reviewed by WREG. Before the restaurant incident, Stark was reportedly seen at nearby Shell and Marathon gas stations, asking people for help while holding the child, according to the outlet.
Stark allegedly entered Memphis Wings, where he went to the kitchen floor and squeezed the child tightly until the boy turned blue. He then reportedly bit the boy on the cheek before bystanders intervened and got the child away from him. Inside the restaurant, Stark allegedly claimed his family was trying to kill him and expressed a need to escape from them.
A witness posted a video on Facebook showing the police arriving at the restaurant. “Seeing that baby’s face really broke my heart,” the witness commented alongside the video. “I can’t even sleep thinking about that baby,” he added. “The devil is busy.”
Footage also captured bystanders outside the restaurant holding the door shut to prevent Stark from leaving. “The baby’s skin is on his lips and cheek!” exclaimed one witness.
The boy was taken to a local hospital where he received treatment for a noncritical facial injury. The child’s mother later informed investigators that Stark had pushed her out of a moving vehicle before driving off with their son, as per the affidavit.
While the child was being treated at the hospital, Stark was taken into custody and booked into the Shelby County Jail. He faces charges of domestic assault causing bodily harm. It remains unclear if Stark has entered a plea or secured legal counsel. The Shelby Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment on the case. Stark is set to appear in court on the morning of Tuesday, May 5, as indicated by online court records reviewed by Us.
