French designer Roland Mouret has significantly influenced British fashion, being credited with shaping Victoria Beckham’s fashion sense and encouraging Kate Middleton to subtly challenge royal traditions. His designs have seen Catherine, Princess of Wales, don daring outfits like the thigh-slit Ella gown at a 2012 formal event at Claridge’s, the daring neckline of the Nansen dress at SportsAid’s 40th-anniversary gala in 2016, and an off-the-shoulder dress at the 2022 premiere of Top Gun: Maverick. These choices, though not shockingly bold, were considered somewhat provocative by royal standards.

Although Mouret is renowned for his form-fitting designs, his creations have also become staples in the princess’s everyday wardrobe. Recently, Kate Middleton visited the University of East London to inaugurate the Foundations for Life initiative. On this occasion, she wore a high-waisted Mouret suit paired with a silk shirt-style Mouret bodysuit, complemented by toffee-colored Ralph Lauren pumps. Her accessories included Daniella Draper mini-hoops with heart charms and an alphabet necklace. The tailoring, crafted from Mouret’s stretch-friendly cady fabric, allowed her the flexibility to interact comfortably with children and families at the university’s early years education department.
