BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
As we mark 250 years of American freedom, we reflect on this significant milestone made possible by our Armed Forces, who have vowed to defend our freedom since the inception of our Republic. This commitment is shared by their devoted spouses across generations. On Military Spouse Day, we pay tribute to the remarkable women and men who serve our Nation.
Military spouses play a crucial role in our national defense. Their steadfast support on the home front allows our service members to safeguard our country and uphold our liberty. Daily, they navigate the unique demands and disruptions of military life with remarkable resilience, shaped by frequent relocations, extended deployments, and family separations. Despite these challenges, military spouses persist not only out of love for their partners but also out of belief in America’s promise.
Our military consistently responds when duty calls, and it is our responsibility to support those who stand loyally beside our servicemen and women. During my first term, we honored our commitment to enhance employment policies for military spouses by expanding opportunities within the Federal Government, improving remote and flexible job options, and increasing licensure portability. While we have made significant progress, further efforts are needed in employment, quality housing, affordable childcare, accessible healthcare, and education. As President, I am dedicated to ensuring our Armed Forces remain the world’s strongest fighting force and that our military spouses and families receive the necessary support, care, and opportunities.
The spouses of our service members share a noble but challenging calling with their loved ones. In both peaceful times and during conflicts, they rise to every challenge, enduring pressures and sacrifices with unwavering grace and strength. Today, the First Lady and I join a grateful Nation in honoring these patriots and heroes. May God bless our Armed Forces, our military spouses, and their families.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 8, 2026, as Military Spouse Day.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this seventh day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
DONALD J. TRUMP
