On Thursday morning in Edgewater, a shooting resulted in one man’s death and left another seriously injured. Authorities are currently investigating if the incident was a murder-suicide.
Police arrived at the scene on the 1400 block of West Thome Avenue at 7:19 a.m. following reports of gunfire. They discovered a 53-year-old man and another unidentified male, both with gunshot wounds. The 53-year-old is in critical condition at St. Francis Hospital, while the other man died from his injuries.
Witnesses suggested that one of the men shot the other before turning the gun on himself. Detectives are examining the details of the incident. A firearm was found at the scene, and further investigation at St. Francis Hospital led to the recovery of another weapon and four magazines from one of the men, according to initial findings.
This incident marks the second shooting in Edgewater this year. Earlier, on April 25, a 46-year-old man was injured when multiple shooters opened fire near the 5200 block of North Broadway late at night. It remains unclear if he was the intended target.
