Botswana Minerals recently announced a groundbreaking discovery in its exploration efforts, with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI). The company reported that a study utilizing AI technology identified 36 copper anomalies within two of its northern Botswana licenses. These anomalies are organized into six exploration corridors, highlighting the potential for significant mineral deposits in the region.

The licenses are strategically located in an under-explored geological corridor that connects Namibia’s Damara Belt with Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Central African Copperbelt. These areas are known for their rich copper deposits, making them key regions for copper exploration in Africa.

The identified anomalies exhibit geological traits similar to major existing and historic copper deposits. This discovery has sparked excitement within the industry, as it signifies the potential for significant mineralization in Botswana.

Botswana Minerals plans to kick off initial fieldwork within the next three months. The company will refine and prioritize the 36 identified target areas, develop field programs for key corridors, and plan the next stage of exploration based on the integrated target inventory. This strategic approach aims to maximize the efficiency of exploration efforts and increase the likelihood of success in identifying valuable mineral deposits.

The assessment was conducted using Planetary AI’s Xplore platform, which combines machine learning with expert geological insights to analyze comprehensive datasets. This approach involved analyzing geological mapping, structural and geophysical data, geochemistry, and remote sensing to pinpoint potential mineralization zones.

The identified targets show similarities to major copper deposits such as Kamoa-Kakula in the DRC and Tsumeb in Namibia. These similarities further validate the potential of the identified anomalies and underscore the significance of the discovery.

Botswana Minerals Chairman, John Teeling, expressed enthusiasm about the use of AI techniques in mineral exploration. He highlighted the importance of leveraging data from copper mines worldwide to identify areas with similar geological characteristics. This approach enables the company to prioritize anomalies and focus future fieldwork and drilling efforts for maximum impact.

Overall, Botswana Minerals’ AI study marks a significant milestone in the company’s exploration efforts. The discovery of 36 copper anomalies opens up new possibilities for mineral exploration in Botswana, positioning the company for future success in unlocking the region’s mineral potential. Stay tuned for further updates as Botswana Minerals continues to progress in its exploration endeavors.
