Announcement

Artist Janani Balasubramanian and astrophysicist Natalie Gosnell explore a novel approach to collaboration, focusing on values and a free-spirited practice.

University of California Press

Art-Science Undisciplined, published by the University of California Press, encourages a re-evaluation of what collaboration can be. Instead of viewing art and science as distinct fields that occasionally interact, artist Janani Balasubramanian and astrophysicist Natalie Gosnell propose a joint practice centered on curiosity, experimentation, and transformation. Drawing from their own collaboration and insights from other interdisciplinary creators, they provide a roadmap for forming partnerships based on mutual respect, creativity, and joy.

Recognizing the challenges posed by institutional pressures, limited resources, and hectic schedules, Art-Science Undisciplined offers methods for maintaining meaningful collaboration in day-to-day practice. The book provides readers with advice on establishing shared values, effective cross-disciplinary communication, balancing diverse knowledge systems, and fostering trust and experimentation.

At its core, Art-Science Undisciplined is an invitation to envision broader possibilities for both creative and scientific endeavors.
