For many, traditional phone calls are just a small part of everyday communication.
Users, including myself, often prefer third-party services like WhatsApp over the default ‘Phone’ app, though juggling multiple apps can lead to a disjointed and frustrating experience.
However, Samsung’s upcoming One UI 9 may soon simplify this issue.
Call consolidation, finally!
The public beta of One UI 9, Samsung’s Android 17-based interface, is now accessible to Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra users.
As noted by SamMobile, this update brings a significant enhancement to the dialer by allowing users to view call history from third-party apps directly within the default Phone app.
This feature works with both WhatsApp and Google Meet, displaying call details just like any conventional call. As a frequent WhatsApp caller, I find this development very appealing.

Moreover, a screenshot from SamMobile reveals a noticeable Google Meet icon under call information, suggesting the potential to initiate a Meet or WhatsApp call with a single tap. This could be revolutionary.
The feature is expected to be enabled by default, but users can customize or disable it by selecting the three-dot button in the top-right corner, then navigating to Settings > Other call settings > Other calling apps.
Key apps are still missing
For those following closely, a significant limitation is evident. Although WhatsApp and Google Meet have vast user bases, several other popular video calling platforms are absent.
This includes Meta’s Messenger (previously Facebook Messenger), as well as competitors like Telegram and Signal. Additionally, services like Discord, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams are frequently used on mobile devices.

Personally, the absence of Messenger is a notable gap, leaving the Phone app’s call history incomplete. Hopefully, this is just the start, and more platforms will integrate soon.
Currently, the One UI 9 beta is limited to Galaxy S26 devices, but it is anticipated to expand to other Samsung Galaxy phones. The complete version is set to launch on Samsung’s upcoming foldables in July, including the Galaxy Z Flip 8 series, Z Fold 8, and the new Z Fold Wide.
