Hulu is developing a new ensemble comedy created by comedian and actor Dewayne Perkins.
The series centers on a group of friends in their 30s who adopt a unique dating approach: all relationship choices are made by a group vote. The narrative focuses on the “chaotically gay Denny” and “just trying his best straight Nelson,” as they and their friends endeavor to discover new romantic prospects, rebuild their self-esteem, enhance their happiness, and define the next stage of their lives, according to the show’s description.
If Hulu approves the project, Perkins will not only star but also write and serve as an executive producer. The series will have additional executive producers, including Stephen Curry, Erick Peyton, and Sharla Sumpter Bridgett, through Unanimous Media.
Perkins is currently featured in Seth Rogen’s Apple TV series “The Studio.” He co-wrote, produced, and starred in Lionsgate’s horror comedy “The Blackening,” which was inspired by his viral Comedy Central short. His other accomplishments include writing for “The Amber Ruffin Show” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” as well as acting in “The Upshaws” and “Saved by the Bell.” In 2020, Perkins was recognized as one of Variety‘s 10 Comics to Watch.
Established in 2018 by NBA champion Stephen Curry and multi-talented creator Erick Peyton, Unanimous Media produces content focused on family, faith, and sports. Their work includes the animated film “GOAT” and the Apple TV docuseries “Underrated,” among other projects.
