According to court documents, a high school volleyball coach in Texas is alleged to have inappropriately touched a student-athlete in her car following a track event, and later engaged in a sexual relationship with her upon her turning 18.
BreAnn Halcumb, 34, reportedly maintained a close relationship with the student for three months before they engaged in sexual activities. When confronted by the student’s concerned parents, Halcumb attempted to shift the blame onto the student, according to an affidavit referenced by KLTV.
Last month, colleagues of Halcumb at Randolph High School alerted authorities after noticing suspicious interactions between her and the student.
Between February and April, Halcumb and the student exchanged 160 messages via a school forum, which officials described as “teenage flirting” in violation of school policy, as noted in the affidavit.
The final message, sent on April 24, included Halcumb’s personal phone number. On April 30, after the student turned 18, they reportedly engaged in sexual activities at least twice.
On May 14, Halcumb allegedly inappropriately touched the student in her car at a park while returning from a track meet. The coach also visited the student’s home for “nail services,” during which sexual contact reportedly occurred, as per the affidavit.
Halcumb is accused of instructing the student not to disclose their relationship, and the student believed their feelings were genuine.

The student also informed authorities that she and Halcumb kissed twice.
Halcumb, facing a potential 20-year prison sentence, was confronted by the girl’s father over a speakerphone call as he sought to understand her viewpoint. She admitted her actions were wrong, based on the documents.
When questioned about not reporting the situation to school officials, Halcumb could not provide an explanation.
During the confrontation, she attempted to shift the blame onto the student, claiming the teen initiated the first kiss.
Halcumb told authorities that the student “pushed up on her and tried to kiss her first,” as noted in court records.
Halcumb resigned from her position at Randolph High School prior to her arrest.
She had recently accepted a volleyball coaching position at Cedar Creek High School within the Bastrop Independent School District.
Officials are currently reviewing the situation according to district policies, said Evan Moilan, Executive Director of Communications, as reported by KSAT.
“The safety of our students, staff, and community is always our highest priority,” Moilan stated.
