A teacher from Indiana has been arrested on charges of sending sexually explicit images to a minor in Tennessee. Hunter Vires was taken into custody on Wednesday, June 3, as announced by the Indiana State Police after a collaborative investigation involving multiple agencies.
The investigation into Vires, 24, began in early May when the Elizabethton Police Department in Tennessee contacted the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to a report by Fox 59. The task force alleged that Vires had sent sexually explicit images and engaged in a “sexual conversation” with an underage victim via Snapchat.
Currently, it remains unclear how Vires came into contact with the victim or the duration of their interaction prior to the investigation. The case was handed over to the Indiana State Police ICAC, led by Detective Robert Whyte.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that Vires resided in Bloomington, Indiana, and was employed as a teacher at an unspecified school in Indianapolis. The specific school has not been disclosed, and it is unknown if Vires is still affiliated with the school district.
On June 3, Vires was apprehended at a location in northern Indiana without incident. A search warrant was also executed at his residence in Bloomington to gather additional evidence. It is not yet confirmed if anything was found during the search.
Following his arrest, Vires was taken to the Monroe County Jail and charged preliminarily with disseminating matter harmful to minors. The Indiana State Police have indicated that further charges may be filed in both Indiana and Tennessee as the investigation continues.
It remains uncertain whether Vires has entered a plea or appointed legal representation following his arrest. The Indiana State Police did not provide an immediate response to Us Weeklyâs request for comment regarding the case.
The investigation and arrest involved multiple agencies, including the ISP Digital Forensics Unit, ISP Technical Services Unit, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department ICAC Section, Bloomington Police Department ICAC Section, Fulton County Sheriffâs Department, FBI, and Elizabethton Police Department.
