The American Medical Association (AMA) has announced the launch of a nationwide campaign aimed at addressing health misinformation and restoring confidence in the medical field.

Scheduled for initiation later this year, the campaign is titled “Have You Asked Your Doctor?” It intends to focus on re-establishing trust in medicine, science, and the expertise of physicians, especially at a time when these elements face significant scrutiny. This was highlighted by AMA chief executive officer Dr. John Whyte during his speech at the policy-making House of Delegates meeting in Chicago.

While the AMA has not disclosed the financial details of the campaign, additional information will be provided in the coming months.

This initiative emerges against a backdrop of increasing vaccine skepticism, partly influenced by the Trump administration and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is known for his critical stance on vaccines. Kennedy has frequently opposed physician groups over vaccine policies and other public health measures deemed unscientific by medical professionals.

The AMA has openly criticized changes in the vaccine schedule proposed by the Trump administration, which, according to its members, pose a serious risk to children. Dr. Whyte also noted the organization’s criticism of the Health and Human Services Department for weakening the leadership of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, thereby compromising evidence-based preventive care.

Furthermore, the AMA has advocated for greater accountability in the use of artificial intelligence within healthcare, as its rapid adoption outpaces the necessary patient safety measures. Dr. Whyte emphasized that the organization has actively combated AI deepfakes and false medical claims spreading misinformation online.

Dr. Whyte concluded by affirming the AMA’s commitment to being the leading and most trusted partner for physicians navigating the future of medicine. “Medicine is entering a new era,” he stated, noting that the forces reshaping healthcare are accelerating and that technology is altering the delivery of care, while trust in science and institutions is being challenged.
