Mercedes Moné, an AEW star known for her prominence in women’s professional wrestling, recently declined a match against a 28-year-old competitor. Having taken time off for most of 2026, she made a comeback to the Jacksonville-based organization as a surprise entrant in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament. During the competition, she triumphed over Alex Windsor in the quarterfinals and delivered an impressive performance against Hazuki from STARDOM in the semifinals.
Prior to the Forbidden Door event, Tony Khan expressed that Hazuki was welcome to return to AEW at any time. At the event, Mercedes Moné faced Maya World in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament finals. After a grueling match lasting nearly 30 minutes, Moné emerged victorious, securing her second Owen Hart Cup win. She is now set to compete at All In, where she will challenge the AEW Women’s World Champion.
Following her Owen Hart Cup victory, Hazuki expressed on X her desire for a rematch with Moné. However, Moné dismissed the prospect of another encounter and rescinded the invitation extended by Tony Khan to the 28-year-old wrestler.
“A rematch for what?!? I know Tony invited you back anytime but I’m the CEO and I’m uninviting you!” she wrote.
Mercedes Moné discusses facing Thekla at All In
Known as the Toxic Spider, Thekla has held the AEW Women’s World Championship since February 2026. With All In on the horizon, Moné will face the current women’s champion at Wembley Stadium in August.
During the Forbidden Door media scrum, Mercedes Moné remarked that defeating Thekla would be an easy task.
“It’s the opponent Dummy, are you stupid or are you dumb? It’s the opponent that’s the difference and now if it’s going to be Thekla, oh my god this is going to be a walk in the park. I can’t wait to get over to London. I can’t wait!,” she said.
The upcoming match will determine if Thekla can retain her title until All In.
