The Great American State Fair has turned out to be a major disappointment for Trump. The extreme summer heat coupled with an event that failed to attract the general American public made the fair, intended to spotlight Trump during the 4th of July, resemble a rain-drenched yard sale.
Fox News has been airing live from Trump’s event every day, earnestly encouraging people to attend, but their coverage also highlights the lack of attendees.
Here is a glimpse of the turnout at Trump’s fair on Thursday morning:
The attendance on Thursday was even lower than earlier in the week.
The situation has become so concerning that Fox News is questioning Trump administration officials, such as Agricultural Secretary Brooke Rollins, about the sparse crowds.
Rollins responded by asserting that everything is proceeding well and predicted a surge in attendance over the weekend:
From my perspective, it is meeting every expectation we had set.
I am confident that this weekend we’ll witness massive crowds, but, you know, my aim is for people to come, explore, and enjoy it. With 150,000 attendees celebrating the Great American State Fair over the past five or six days, I consider it a significant success.
The assertion that people will come, really, seems to reflect the administration’s hopeful thinking.
Fox News continued to describe attendees as “patriots” at the fair, only to later retract the statement.
