The Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival recently announced the winners of its TV Beats Co-Financing Market, an initiative designed to encourage collaborations in series co-production and support independent producers.

One of the standout projects that received recognition was the Finnish drama “The Women I Think About at Night,” which was awarded the Series Co-Production Development Award along with a prize of €50,000 ($52,780). The series, produced by Liisa Karpo for Napafilms, follows the story of a 40-year-old art teacher who decides to leave her comfortable yet unfulfilling life behind. With the help of a group of courageous women from history, she embarks on a journey of self-discovery in various locations around the world.

The project, which is based on a book by Mia KankimÀki, aims to provide viewers with an uplifting and escapist experience. Combining elements of documentary footage and animation, the series explores themes of identity, self-discovery, and the power of learning from diverse cultures. The jury praised the project for its bold approach and its focus on female perspectives.

In addition to the main award, this year’s TV Beats Market also introduced a Public Favorite Award, which was won by the German project “In Paradise.” The dramedy, written by Corinna C. Poetter, delves into the aftermath of a high-profile family’s separation and has garnered attention for its unique storytelling.

During the award ceremony, the Honorary TV Beats Producer Award was presented to Ukrainian producer Kateryna Vyshnevska, in recognition of her contributions to the TV drama industry. Vyshnevska, known for her work on series like “Hide and Seek” and “Those Who Stayed,” has played a significant role in promoting Ukrainian television on the international stage.
