The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is currently seeking talented local artists to participate in a large-scale public art installation along Flushing Avenue in mid-2025. Artists residing and working in Kings County are encouraged to submit project proposals centered around the theme of “Our Brooklyn.” Applications are now open until December 15.

The project involves activating the public-facing fence line in front of the Yard’s Building 3, covering a span of approximately 480 feet between Clermont Avenue and Carlton Avenue. Artists can also incorporate the adjacent Building 92’s fence and forecourt into their proposals, either as an extension of the Building 3 installation or as a separate idea. It is important for artists to consider the material differences and the opening and closing of gate entry points when designing their submissions.

The guidelines for submissions emphasize a contemporary focus, stating that the Yard is not interested in historically-focused narratives. Artists are encouraged to explore ways in which communities come together through work, social activities, and cultural life. The proposals should highlight the intersection of economic growth with a community’s social and cultural elements, celebrating the diversity of innovators and workers at the Yard and in Brooklyn.

The project budget for the installation is $30,000, covering the planning, creation, installation, and deinstallation of the artwork. The selected artist or group will receive a $1,000 honorarium as part of the budget, with two payments of $500 for their participation in public programs related to the installation. The winning proposal is expected to be chosen by mid-February, with the installation scheduled for May 15.
