Reports have surfaced indicating that the actor has reportedly died after suffering from pneumonia. The final photograph available shows Neill appearing joyful at the Sydney’s ARIA Hall of Fame ceremony in June.
This event marked his last public appearance, where lively music played as he posed under the warm event lights.
Alongside the awards ceremony, the occasion was personally significant for Neill as it celebrated his arduous battle against cancer.
On Instagram, he described it as a “great night,” sharing that he spent the evening honoring artists he had admired for decades.
The photograph was uploaded to Neill’s Instagram account, and weeks later, his family used the platform to announce his passing.
A source noted, “Even though Sam had been seriously ill before, no one in his family saw his death coming. His passing is absolutely devastating for them, and that is why they called it sudden. They are broken without him.”
Other posts on Neill’s Instagram and TikTok show him interacting with birds pecking at feed and holding bottles of wine from his cherished winery.
He frequently shared videos of his father’s antique wind-up toys, including a Charlie Chaplin figure spinning its cane, celebrating their functionality a century after their creation.
