The women’s tag team championship is also on the line as Brie Bella and Paige aim to defend their titles against Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley of the Fatal Influence. Additionally, Danhausen is set to compete against JD McDonagh in a No Disqualification match at MSG.
Another exciting tag team match will feature new WWE Champion CM Punk and Cody Rhodes teaming up against Sami Zayn and Gunther. Although the complete match order hasn’t been revealed, veteran commentator Michael Cole has shared some insights.
During a guest appearance on The Sal Licata Show, Cole confirmed that the tag team match with Punk, Rhodes, Gunther, and Zayn will headline the event.
“The main event on Saturday will be a tag team match with CM Punk, the WWE Champion, teaming with Cody Rhodes, the guy he meets at SummerSlam for the Title against Gunther and Sami Zayn,” he stated.
The tag team match was formalized last week on WWE SmackDown
The latest SmackDown episode kicked off with CM Punk celebrating his recent victory as the new WWE Champion. Cody Rhodes interrupted, leading to a heated exchange between the two.
Punk accepted Rhodes’ challenge for a title match at SummerSlam, which was then officially sanctioned by SmackDown GM Nick Aldis.
Later, Gunther demanded Aldis rectify his perceived error. In response, Aldis arranged a tag team match for Saturday Night’s Main Event, pairing Punk and Rhodes against Gunther and Sami Zayn. A confrontation ensued, with Gunther attacking Aldis until Rhodes intervened.
