According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, a shooting at a large party in Morgan Hill resulted in one fatality and seven injuries.
Deputies were initially dispatched to the party’s location at Hale and Miramonte avenues at 10:15 p.m. following reports of intoxicated individuals and an incident involving a bottle being thrown at a vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers encountered approximately 300 people leaving the vicinity near the shooting, as stated by the sheriff’s office in a Facebook post.
First responders found multiple shooting victims and confirmed one person was dead at the scene. The injured were transported to a hospital for treatment.
At present, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.
Investigators have revealed that a handgun was used in the incident, and efforts are underway to track down the individuals responsible. The authorities believe this event to be isolated.
“This tragic and senseless violence is entirely unacceptable,” Sheriff Robert Jonsen stated. “Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, those recovering from their injuries, and everyone in our community affected by this traumatic event.”
Assisting in response to the incident were the Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and San Jose Police Department, handling first aid, scene security, and investigative tasks.
The Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives indicated the party was promoted on social media.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Services Division at (408)-808-4431.
